Celebrate National Ag Day!

Celebrate National Ag Day!

HAGERSTOWN, MD (March 23, 2021) – Washington County, Maryland has a deep history rooted in agriculture. Today, Washington County joins the Agriculture Council of America to celebrate National Ag Day. Every year producers, agricultural associations, corporations, universities, government agencies, and countless others across America join together to recognize the contributions of agriculture.

The National Ag Day program encourages every American to:
  • Understand how food and fiber products are produced.
  • Value the essential role of agriculture in maintaining a strong economy.
  • Appreciate the role agriculture plays in providing safe, abundant, and affordable products.
Agritourism is an incredibly valuable economic driver in Washington County. To provide information about agriculture to citizens at their fingertips, the County has created an Agritourism app. This app provides insight into what fruits and vegetables are in season, local farms, farmers’ markets, and information about agriculture. Download the app today on Google Play or the App Store.

Washington County Agricultural Business Specialist Leslie Hart says, “Washington County is steeped in history and that same history is also heavily entwined to agriculture. Hagerstown’s founding father Jonathan Hager was considered a cattleman and farm manager. As we celebrate National Ag Day, my thoughts turn to the farmers who work every day to provide the food and fiber we need to sustain life. So please stand up with me and thank our farmers, our neighbors, and the givers for a safe food supply. God Bless the farmer. “
