HAGERSTOWN, MD (December 2, 2024) – The Washington County Transit Department (WCT) proudly announces the successful conclusion of its first-ever “Thankful Travels on the Bus” Food Drive. The initiative garnered an incredible donation of over 835 canned goods and non-perishable items, totaling 1,040 pounds, for the Maryland Food Bank.
Held from November 18, 2024, to November 23, 2024, the food drive encouraged transit riders to support the local community by donating non-perishable food items in lieu of paying a fare. This inaugural event exemplified the spirit of giving while showcasing the vital role of public transit in building strong community connections.
“We are incredibly grateful to our riders for their overwhelming support during this food drive,” said Connor Shank, Communications & Outreach Manager at Washington County Transit. “This event highlights the kindness and generosity of our community and underscores our commitment to serving not just as a transportation provider but as a partner in local outreach efforts.”
The Maryland Food Bank will distribute the donated items to families in need throughout the region. These contributions will provide essential support to individuals and families, ensuring access to nutritious food during the holiday season and beyond.
WCT continues to provide reliable, safe, and affordable transportation options for all Washington County residents. Offering eight fixed urban routes and specialized services for elderly individuals and those with disabilities, WCT remains dedicated to enhancing mobility and accessibility across the community.
