Washington County to Provide Dumpsters for Storm Debris Disposal

Washington County, MD (April 22, 2025) – In response to the recent storm, Washington County Government will provide dumpsters at select locations for county residents only to dispose of storm-related debris. This service is being offered free of charge to assist residents in cleanup efforts.

Beginning tomorrow, Tuesday, April 23, 2025, after 12:00 p.m., residents may drop off yard waste and construction debris resulting from residential home damage at the following locations:

Convenience Center Drop-Off Locations:

  • Hancock Convenience Center

Address: 6502 Hess Road, Hancock, MD

Hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

  • Smithsburg (Greensburg) Convenience Center

Address: 13125 Bikle Road, Smithsburg, MD

Hours: Tuesday – Saturday, 7:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

  • Forty West Landfill:

Address: 12630 Earth Care Road

Hours: Monday – Saturday, 7:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Note: Forty West Landfill will accept storm debris only during this time.

No fees will be charged for Washington County residents. Please note this service is limited to storm debris only, and proof of residency may be required. Items accepted include yard waste and construction debris from storm-related residential property damage.

The dumpsters will remain available through Tuesday, May 7, 2025, or until the allotted debris funding limit is met, whichever comes first.

Liberal leave is in effect for all non-essential personal on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, until noon. Essential personnel are expected to fulfill their duties as usual.
