Washington County Public Safety Training Center Hosts Dr. Richard Gasaway for First Responder Training

HAGERSTOWN, MD (February 25, 2025) – The Washington County Public Safety Training Center hosts Dr. Richard B. Gasaway, a nationally recognized expert on human error and situational awareness, for a specialized training program titled “Flawed Situational Awareness: The Stealth Killer of First Responders.”

This program will be offered on Friday, February 28, 2025, and Saturday, March 1, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the Washington County Public Safety Training Center, located at 18350 Public Safety Place, Hagerstown, MD 21740.

This one-day training session is designed to provide first responders with essential knowledge on the dangers of flawed situational awareness and its impact on decision-making in high-risk environments. Dr. Gasaway, drawing on extensive research and real-world case studies, will address critical factors that contribute to preventable errors in emergency response situations. His analysis of near-miss reports, incident debriefs, and safety studies underscores the importance of recognizing early warning signs to mitigate potentially catastrophic outcomes.

With over three decades of experience in emergency response, Dr. Gasaway has served in various leadership roles, including firefighter, EMT-paramedic, instructor, captain, assistant chief, and fire chief. His expertise has been featured in over 450 publications, and he has delivered more than 4,000 presentations to over 100,000 first responders, military personnel, healthcare professionals, and business leaders worldwide.
