Washington County Parks Open

HAGERSTOWN, MD (May 2, 2022) – The Washington County Department of Parks & Recreation announces all county-owned parks will officially open on Saturday, May 7, 2022. Parks are open daily from 9:00 a.m. until sunset.
 
County-owned parks include:
  • Camp Harding Park
  • Chestnut Grove Park
  • Clear Spring Park
  • Devil’s Backbone Park
  • Doub’s Wood Park
  • Kemps Mill Park
  • Marty Snook Park
  • Mt. Briar Wetland Preserve
  • Pen Mar Park
  • Pinesburg Softball Complex
  • Piper Lane Neighborhood Park
  • Pleasant Valley Park
  • Regional Park
  • Rose’s Mill Park
  • Wilson Bridge Picnic Area
  • Woodland Way Neighborhood Park
Renovations are being completed at the following county-owned parks:
  • Camp Harding Park 
  • Chestnut Grove Park
  • Clear Spring Park
  • Devil’s Backbone Park
  • Pen Mar Park
Restrooms may not be available early in the season due to all five (5) parks receiving restroom renovations. Other than Chestnut Grove, porta pots/primitives are located at each park. We expect to have operational restrooms in all parks within the next couple of weeks. We ask for your patience during the renovations.
 
New playground equipment:
  • Pen Mar Park: New equipment installation is complete. The park will open with an exciting new feature, a double zip line.
  • Marty Snook Park Pavilion 4 & Little League areas: New equipment installation is complete.
  • Camp Harding Park: Equipment is currently being installed.
  • Clear Spring Park: Installation is scheduled to begin this week
  • Chestnut Grove Park: Installation is scheduled to begin next week
  • Marty Snook Park Fitness Equipment: A new shade structure will be installed.
If visiting a county-owned park, please remember to follow park rules and regulations, clean up after pets, and keep pets on a leash at all times. To make a pavilion reservation call 240-313-2700.

Hagerstown Regional Airport (HGR) is thrilled to a Hagerstown Regional Airport (HGR) is thrilled to announce exciting updates to its summer 2025 flight schedule, marking a 13.5% growth compared to the previous year. Between May 13, 2025, and September 2, 2025, HGR will offer 18 additional flights, enhancing options for travelers heading to Myrtle Beach, St. Pete-Clearwater, and Orlando-Sanford. ✈️ Expanded Flight Schedule Highlights Myrtle Beach (MYR): 🔹 Flights resume Friday, May 23, 2025. 🔹 Starting June 8, 2025, through September 1, 2025, service increases to four flights per week. St. Pete-Clearwater (PIE): 🔹 Seven additional flights are added in August 2025, extending the summer flight season. 🔹 Service increases to three flights per week from May 25, 2025, to August 14, 2025. 🔹 Two flights per week are scheduled from August 17, 2025, to August 31, 2025. Orlando-Sanford (SFB): 🔹 Year-round service continues. 🔹 Three flights per week are scheduled from May 19, 2025, to August 8, 2025. 🔹 Two flights per week continue from August 11, 2025, to September 1, 2025. 🛄 More Capacity, More Convenience During peak summer weeks, HGR will offer as many as ten weekly flights, accommodating increased demand and providing greater flexibility for travelers. Passengers will also enjoy upgraded service on Allegiant’s brand-new Boeing 737 Max 8-200 aircraft, which features the “Allegiant Extra” seating option. “Allegiant Extra” offers passengers premium amenities, including: 🔹 An additional 6” of legroom. 🔹 Reserved overhead bin space. 🔹 Priority boarding. 🔹 First access to in-flight service. These upgrades begin in November 2024, further enhancing the travel experience at HGR. 📈 Continued Growth and Success HGR’s collaboration with Allegiant Air continues to deliver impressive results. From September 2024 to August 2025, the total number of flights will increase to 309—up from 274 flights during the same period the previous year, representing a 12.77% growth. Bud’s journey has been nothing short of historic, leaving an indelible mark on Washington County through his pioneering work in GIS, his leadership, and his unwavering commitment to innovation. To commemorate his legacy, Bud was presented with a special shirt featuring a timeline of his many milestones, including: 🔹 Establishing the GIS Office and Enterprise GIS operations. 🔹 Leading projects like Rural Route Readdressing, Forest Conservation Mapping, and the E811 Project. 🔹 Supporting pivotal initiatives such as the Comprehensive Plan for Washington County, Rural Rezoning, and NextGen911. 🔹 Introducing cutting-edge technology, from ArcView 2.1 to Accela Automation, and participating in statewide efforts like the Maryland Open Data Council. This morning, the Washington County Division of Em This morning, the Washington County Division of Emergency Services (DES), in partnership with Meritus Health, honored a team of paramedics and first responders with the Life Savers Award for their exceptional actions in successfully resuscitating a cardiac arrest patient on August 16, 2024. This award underscores the extraordinary skill and dedication of first responders who confront high-stakes situations daily. The Life Savers Award, presented jointly by Washington County DES and Meritus Health, recognizes individuals for their exceptional professional effort during a cardiac arrest resulting in an exceptional preservation of quality of life. This award allows the first responders to reconnect with the patient they saved, bridging a gap often left in their line of work. First responders frequently don’t learn what happens to their patients after transport, leaving a vital piece of their efforts unseen. On August 16, 2024, paramedics and responders Richard Smith, Alex Hasri, Captain Gary Hoffman, Colton Matheny, and Stacy Lakin were called to the scene of a cardiac arrest. Upon arrival, the team quickly assessed the patient, a former public servant and firefighter, who was found in cardiac arrest with agonal respirations and no pulse. Moving him from his recliner to the floor, Alex began chest compressions while Colten ensured the patient’s airway was clear and took on the role of primary care provider. Meanwhile, Richard began an IV and identified low blood sugar levels. The team transferred the patient to a Lucas Device, a mechanical CPR apparatus, which helped restore a heartbeat. Through their combined efforts, the patient regained consciousness, received further medication, and was safely transported to the hospital for continued care, where he eventually recovered and joined the team at the award ceremony. The Life Savers Award honors those who confront challenges with bravery and commitment, often under the most critical conditions. Washington County and Meritus Medical Center remain deeply appreciative of the dedication demonstrated by these first responders, who consistently prioritize the lives of others in the line of duty.

The starting time for today’s Board of County Commissioners meeting will be reevaluated at 9:00 am.
