HAGERSTOWN, MD (July 27, 2023) – The Washington County Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED)announces the 2023 Great Pumpkin of Washington County, MD Challenge. This captivating event invites the remarkable citizens of Washington County, MD to showcase their expertise in cultivating phenomenal pumpkins and proudly exhibit their skills to the entire State of Maryland.

Get ready to cultivate your magnificent Great Pumpkin today! These remarkable gourds require ample time to grow, along with an abundance of water and sunshine to reach their full potential.

We invite you to register now and participate in this thrilling venture. Stay connected with us on our Facebook page for regular updates throughout the summer, featuring the remarkable progress of each pumpkin. In October, we will measure and weigh the pumpkins at their respective locations, utilizing an industrial scale. This process will determine the final weight of each pumpkin. Don’t miss out on the opportunity to be part of this exciting event!

To be eligible for the contest, you must have your pumpkin registered by August 1, 2023.

The Trophies for the 2023 Great Pumpkin of Washington County, MD Challenge will be awarded on October 21, 2023, at Antietam Pumpkins, located at 4410 Harpers Ferry Road, Sharpsburg, MD.

Trophies will be awarded based on size, including weight, in the following classes:

  • Children Class, 17 and under:
  • Adult Class, 18-61 years of age
  • Senior Class, 62 and above
