HAGERSTOWN, MD (December 16, 2024) – Washington County Government announces that on Thursday evening, December 12, 2024, Maryland Governor Wes Moore installed the Maryland Association of Counties (MACo) Board of Directors for 2025. The installation took place at the Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay Hotel in Cambridge, Maryland, during the MACo Winter Conference Inaugural Banquet.
Commissioner President John F. Barr of Washington County was installed along with his peers as a 2025 MACo Board Member/Officer. Commissioner President Barr is rejoining the board, having previously served as MACo President in 2016. He was elected to this role by MACo’s membership, which includes elected officials from all 23 counties and Baltimore City.
“It is an honor to rejoin the MACo Board of Directors and serve alongside such dedicated leaders from across Maryland,” said Commissioner President John F. Barr. “MACo plays a vital role in advocating for counties, and I look forward to working with my peers to address important issues and advance initiatives that benefit our communities statewide.”
The MACo Board of Directors comprises 16 county elected officials who are selected by the MACo membership to serve the Association’s interests, oversee its management and strategic direction, and strengthen relationships with other entities that interact with MACo and counties. The Board works collaboratively with the MACo Legislative Committee, which sets policy positions and directs legislative advocacy priorities for the Association.
