Inclement Weather Update for Washington County Solid Waste Landfill and Transfer Stations

UPDATE: The transfer station located at 6502 Hess Rd, Hancock, MD is currently without power. This transfer station will remain closed until the power issue is resolved. The 40 West landfill and all other transfer stations remain open.

HAGERSTOWN, MD (February 13, 2024) – The Washington County Government Solid Waste Department informs the public that the Forty West Landfill, located at 12630 Earth Care Road, Hagerstown, Maryland will be open on time today, Tuesday, February 13, 2024.

The transfer station located at 6502 Hess Rd, Hancock, MD is expected to open by 9:00 am. All other transfer stations will be open at their regular times.

We thank you for your patience as our staff works on clearing the snow from these locations.

Liberal leave is in effect for all non-essential personal on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, until noon. Essential personnel are expected to fulfill their duties as usual.

The starting time for today’s Board of County Commissioners meeting will be reevaluated at 9:00 am.

For those required to travel, exercise caution on the roadways. If driving is necessary, ensure your vehicle is completely cleared, drive at a reduced speed, practice caution, and avoid crowding or passing plows.
