Grow & Fortify Academy Launches Commercial Vineyard Expansion Course

 
HAGERSTOWN, MD (March 15, 2021) – The Washington County Department of Business Development shares the information below from Grow & Fortify Value-Added Agriculture. The Grow & Fortify Academy offers courses and certifications to support Maryland’s value-added agriculture industry.
 
Washington County Agricultural Business Specialist Leslie Hart states, “Maryland needs more commercial vineyards and Washington County is an ideal location to grow grapes. There is currently a 600 plus ton void of Maryland Grown Grapes.”

COMMERCIAL VINEYARD EXPANSION COURSE LAUNCHES
 
Maryland wineries are seeking high-quality Maryland-grown fruit, but it’s in short supply. Growers have struggled to stay afloat, often unable to reach an economy of scale.
 
It’s time to expand Maryland’s viticultural base in a financially sustainable fashion.
 
Available online, this 9-lesson course by viticulturist Joyce Rigby will guide participants through the vineyard startup and expansion process from a professional perspective—and with financial modeling in mind.
