Washington County GIS Team Creates Innovative Pool Tracker Tool

HAGERSTOWN, MD (June 11, 2020) – The Washington County Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Department recently worked alongside the Washington County Parks and Recreation Department to create a tracking tool that allows the public to track the capacity level at Marty Snook Pool before going to the pool. With capacity guidelines due to COVID-19, the amount of people allowed inside pool gates is currently 100 people.
Joe Rathvon, GIS Database Administrator, said, “The pool tracker allows patrons to see in real-time the capacity available at the pool.”
The Know Before You Go! motto is aligned with the goal of this pool tracker, which is to alleviate citizens from arriving at the pool to find out the pool has reached maximum capacity. The team has also created a QR code that can be easily scanned to view the tracker.
GIS Analyst Bonn Poland said, “This is an easy way for pool staff to keep track of attendance. We were able to re-tool GIS software that is intended to be used in a different way and create this tracker as a way of saving money.”
