Maryland Winter Safety Awareness Week Begins Today

HAGERSTOWN, MD (December 10, 2024) – As winter approaches, the Washington County’s Office of Emergency Management shares information from the National Weather Service encouraging Maryland residents to prepare for the season’s challenges during Maryland Winter Safety Awareness Week, running from December 10–16, 2024. This initiative, spearheaded by the National Weather Service (NWS) in collaboration with the Maryland Department of Emergency Management (MDEM), emphasizes the importance of winter weather safety and preparedness.

Throughout the week, citizens will have access to vital information on various winter weather hazards, including snowstorms, ice storms, and extreme cold. Daily updates and practical tips will help Marylanders safeguard their families, homes, and communities.

The NWS has created a comprehensive Winter Safety webpage, featuring downloadable infographics and social media-ready content that individuals and organizations can easily share. These resources are designed to spread awareness and encourage proactive planning.

Visit the Winter Safety webpage at https://www.weather.gov/lwx/2024MDWinter for more details and tools to prepare for the winter season.

  • Preparing emergency kits for homes and vehicles.
  • Protecting pipes, pets, and people from freezing temperatures.
