From the Medical Director

Hello all!

I hope the summer has found you healthy and happy. A couple of points I'd like to make this "go around". Once again, I urge you to remember your basics. We are equipped with many potentially life saving paraphernalia, however, the single biggest life saving component is you! This is an issue that resurfaces again and again, and failure to remember the basics is what gets people into trouble. What basics: a good assessment, CPR, and "electricity". All else is merely an adjunct. Our equipment is simply an extension of us, of our skills and abilities. YOU are the most important factor in saving a life!

Another issue I'd like to touch upon is the H1N1 or swine flu. Some potential cases were recently reported at WCH. If you are a provider in a suspected case, please remind the ED about obtaining prophylaxis for you. At this time the two accepted drugs are oseltamivir (Tamiflu) or Zanamivir (Relenza). Also, please remember general precautions i.e. hand washing, masking etc. There will be updates to this info on CDC.Gov forthcoming.

Finally, once again, my sincerest thanks for all that you do.

Humbly,
Vince Cantone...
